WATCH: Schools take a memorandum to the Department of Education

Cosas seemed very powerful.

Accompanied by parents and learners, the National Association of School Governing Bodies (NASGB), National Education Health and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU), South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) and Congress Of South African Students (COSAS) marched to the Gauteng Department of Education’s Johannesburg Central District in Pimville to hand in a memorandum.

The memorandum outline issues affecting some schools in the province. It alluded the issue of infrastructure and sexual harassment.

However, they [marchers] were not allowed to enter the premise of the Department of Education and were requested to leave the memorandum at the gate. The protesters were irate at such a request.

Baleseng Mokgwatleng, regional chairperson of NASGB from Orange Farm to Cosmo City, said: “We have been presenting these issues to the Department of Education but none of the issues has been addressed.”

The conclusion was made by the four unions that on Thursday leaders from the four unions will have a meeting to discuss the way forward and would give updates on what’s to be done next.
