AFROPUNK is an international festival which, over the past 15 years has been defining culture in the music world and creating an atmosphere of multiculturalism and diversity through music, arts, culture, food and style.
“The AIDS Healthcare Foundation is looking forward to being a part of the first ever AFROPUNK to take place on African soil. It’s a festival that celebrates individualism, self-expression and creativity in music and thought. AFROPUNK has demonstrated their commitment to social justice since its inception and we are excited to team up with them and engage festival goers at AFROPUNK’s Activism Row” says Oluwakemi Gbadamosi, Senior Manager PR and Communications for the AHF Africa Bureau
“Activism Row is an interactive, educational, site-specific installation featuring grassroots and non-profit organizations that solve urgent community problems. With the help of non-profit, organizations and social and political movements, Activism Row provides an opportunity for young people to be informed about different civic participation. It also encourages festival-goers to make a difference in their community (and the world) by supporting social innovations,” says Jocelyn Cooper, AFROPUNK partner.
“At Activism Row, festival goers will get to interact with our organisation in a creative space that encourages education, creativity and collaboration. AHF focuses on engaging and empowering youth through initiatives like Girls Act and the Silent Protest, and by partnering with renowned organisations like Drama for Life and Skateistan. We will offer onsite HIV testing and education, distribute condoms and encourage them to be a part of our initiatives in finding solutions to address these challenges in our PLAY SAFE and CREATE CHANGE activations” says Larissa Klazinga, Regional Policy and Advocacy Manager, AHF Southern Africa.
Afropunk will feature an array of South African and African home-grown artists such as King Tha vs BLK JKS, Petite Noir, Spoek Mathambo, Blitz the Ambassador and International acts such as Anderson, Paak and Solange.
