So Where To?

The filming process with Jeffrey Nkosi.

A few years ago, the 28-year-old Jeffrey ‘Jef’ Nkosi, has founded a clothing brand that embraces Soweto as the biggest township in South Africa and its history while also teaching the masses how Soweto is outlined on the map.

Printed ‘So Where To? Soweto’ with the Soweto map, the concept in the brand’s name is that the ‘So Where To’ part is basically a question asking that, from the point you are, where are you going? Then ‘Soweto’ in the case is the answer.

The brand has grown so much that it has recently launched an online documentary called ‘So Where To’. The documentary gives an overview of Soweto as a township, how names of the townships came about and what they really mean. It also embraces the lifestyle and culture of the different areas in Soweto.

Seth Mazibuko is one of the people who knows about the history of Soweto.

“As a producer, I have realised that people live in Soweto but they are not really well informed about the place they live in, how some of the names came about, and what they mean. So, this documentary is to level things and bring out the crisp information,” Nkosi said.

Nkosi basically has a lot of research to do and one of his ways of gathering information is to interview older people, who have sufficient information about the history of the township, such as Seth Mazibuko.

“I want people to appreciate our own, homemade stories and I want to show them that we also have great stories to tell here at home. For now, I am just taking out trailers for five to ten minutes just to entice the masses on what to expect,” said Nkosi.
