Having a baby isn’t the end of the world but it’s what you do after that matters

Tshiamo Foundation held a teenage Clio drive that was sponsored by Max Lichaba that started at Kwalichaba in Orlando West to Kliptown and Freedom Park to motivate teenagers and donate baby clothes and toys.

Clio drivers were accompanied by Assault Riders, Renault South Africa and Panarottis Maponya Mall to both places.

Founder of the organisation Lebogang Lethoko said they choose the two places because they have the highest rate of teenage pregnancy.

“We went to the place to encourage young girls to abstain to avoid pregnancy and to urge those who already have kids to go back to school.

“Having a kid does not mean it is the end of the world but the beginning of new dreams,” said Lethoko.

Tshiamo is an organisation that was formed in February this year but the organisation was formally registered on May 18.

Lehoko said she was once a teenage mother, so she realised the pain of being neglected by society, teachers and the government.

“I wanted to bring back hope and dignity to those young girls and help make a change in their life.

“I realised that young girls lose hope when they fall pregnant and leave school because they feel embarrassed.

“My aim is to encourage them to go back to school so they can be better people,” she said.

Lethoko explained why her organisation is called ‘Tshiamo’ (meaning all is well in English). She said that’s her daughter’s name.

“My grandmother gave my child this name because she fell pregnant in Grade 11 and she had hopes that I will finish school.

“In spite all the challenges I was able to become independent and I am also a business woman.

“So this is my way of inspiring young people and also, there opportunities out there, don’t let your situation define you,” explained Lethoko.
