Meadowlands gospel artist Jabu ‘Jesusbaby’ Nkosi’s album has been nominated for the Independent National Gospel Music Awards (INGOMAs) in the ‘best praise album’ category.

This nomination is Nkosi’s first-ever nomination since his singing career took off.

“I am grateful to be nominated because I am up against gospel legends such as Joyous Celebration. I just saw the hand of God in this nomination,” he said.

Nkosi said that winning this award is going to open doors for him.

“Just to be nominated is a great recognition, winning the award will be a great bonus from God as my manager.”

Nkosi born in Mpumalanga Standerton came in Johannesburg in 2004. According to Nkosi, he started singing at the age of seven at church and by age 12 he started playing a number of different musical instruments.

He said that upon his arrival in Johannesburg in 2004 he joined a ‘clap and tap choir’ and was able to see the potential of becoming a gospel artist.

His first album, titled “Sing Glory” was released in 2012 followed by the nominated album “My Victory” in December last year.

The INGOMAs was founded in 2013 by young people who are actively involved in the gospel music industry and serve as the face and voice for the upcoming and independent gospel or Christian music community and is dedicated to exposing, promoting and celebrating their talent through recognising their achievements through these awards.

It is by no means a competition but an event that honours and recognises talented and hard-working upcoming, independent gospel artists.

You can vote for Nkosi through SMSing ‘Ingomas best praise album Jabu Jesusbaby Nkosi’ to 40439.

There is no limit to the number of SMSes sent and people can vote as many times as possible.

Voting closes on August 19.
