Diepkloof’s maestro makes it to the MTV VJ search top five

Gontse Makgoba thinking about his journey in the industry.

Diepkloof’s very own young maestro has made it to the top 5 of the MTV Base Vee-jay Search after he saw the advert and knew in his heart that the gig was his for the taking.

Now he needs your vote to make his dream come true by voting for him.

Gontse Makgoba, also known as Chuck from Diepkloof grew up in Berea and moved to Diepkloof in 2012 after his family went through a rough patch.

After the family moved to Diepkloof, Chuck attended Athlone Boys High School, and he had attended his first hip hop show while in Grade Eight which is when he fell in love with the genre and everything that is linked to hip-hop and entertainment.

Makgoba said, “I fell in love with the music and the influence must have come from my brother who used to always bump the likes of Eminem, Skwatta Camp and Lil Wayne.”

He started rapping as part of the kid’s church choir.

The period helped him get used to performing because whenever the choir performed a hip hop vibe gospel song, he always jumped on the rapping part and it worked well.

He met four guys and they would form a crew with the dream of making it big in the rap industry.

They were known as Boyz in the hood and the group started their own clothing brand and getting gigs. Due to an accident, they lost one of the group.

The five launched their own production company to uplift the hood with their work.

Chuck entered the MTV Vee-jay search and knew from the time he saw the advert that he was destined to give it a shot.

He went to audition on June 30 and got called back after receiving the news that he made it to the top five.

Makgoba said, “Thomas Gumede encouraged me to lighten up and release the beast in me, and I did and actually aced it.”
