A passenger was shot in the foot when an alleged taxi route dispute between Witwatersrand African Taxi Association (WATA) and Nancefield Dube West Taxi Association (NANDUWE) occurred at the Old Caltex garage in Dube, Soweto yesterday morning.

The alleged perpetrator was driving a Nissan Navara and is still at large.

Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakhele Nkosi-Malobane, has condemned the incident stating that the perpetrator will be brought to book.

“The incident that happened in Dube is so disappointing more so after a number of interventions by the Provincial Department of Transport and my department to resolve the disputes between the two associations.

“We will continue to engage with the two parties to ensure that incidents like this do not happen again. I am confident that police will work around the clock to ensure that the perpetrator will be brought to book,” said Nkosi-Malobane.

“I call upon the leadership of the two associations to resist the temptation to resort to violence to resolve their impasse.”

The passenger is receiving treatment at the Baragwanath Hospital.
