Meadowlands: Bophelong construction advocates for safety

CLO and the staff.

The Bophelong Construction conducted a safety awareness campaign at Mpumalanga Primary School, Rishile Primary School, Pro-Kids day Care Centre and Elizabeth day care centre to educate the children about their safety while the project is ongoing.

According to the Chief Liason Officer (CLO) of the project Jabulile Gumede the campaign was to educate the children about the dangers of construction sites and stormwater drains.

“We wanted to show them different kind of machines that we use and teach them about the barricaded areas in order for them to understand what they represent.

Gumede said that ever since the campaign they have not encountered any problems with the children except for those who play soccer during a normal closure.

“Elderly people remove barriers and motor vehicles speed creating more danger,” she said.

Gumede said that they barricade unsafe areas with orange barriers to highlight unsafe areas.

“We try to close open holes but those that are open we use barrier netting.

“We water the sand to subsidise dust.”

Gumede said that every Monday they have what they call a tool box talk where they discuss the dangers of the site and emergency procedures in the event of any emergency.

“The community should be patient because at the end it is going to be worth it.”

The community is advised to visit the CLO if they have any safety concerns they want to address.

The Bophelong Construction is a construction which was hired to fix the Forbes road in order to prevent the rate of accidents that have been occurring in the past.
