UPDATE: Suspected ritual killing of Tinyiko Mongwe shakes Orlando East (Plus Photo)

Tinyiko's mother Rosina Mosiuoa still can't believe she lost her only son.

“The 21-year-old man accused of the brutal murder of Tinyiko Mongwe must have been literally hungry for blood” – these were the exact words from angry residents following this terrible ordeal.

Eyewitness claim that the man killed a chicken and drank its blood before going out to look for more.

Five-year-old Mongwe who was playing outside his home with his friends and sisters, unfortunately, fell victim to the suspected ritual killing.

According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect pinned him down before stabbing him in his throat with a knife and sucked blood.

“You could hear from his voice that he was possessed by evil spirits. He was heard saying ‘I want blood.’

“Imagine something like that happening to an innocent little boy in front of his friends. This is really traumatic and sad,” said Pununu Nkoe, a resident from Orlando East.

Police were called and arrived on time before angry residents could take the law into their hands.

The suspect was supposed to appear at the Orlando Magistrates Court today but could not make it after being admitted to hospital.

Rosina Mosiuoa, the victim’s mother, is yet to come to terms with the death of her only son.

She was coming from work when she was met with a lifeless body of her son on the side of the street just outside of her home.

“I asked whose child was lying on the street like that and no one wanted to tell me it was mine. I can’t even explain the pain I felt. I couldn’t even breathe properly because of grief,” said a sobbing Mosiuoa.

This incident has shaken not only residents of Orlando East but parents from across Soweto are fearing for their children.

MEC for Community Safety Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane is expected to visit the family today.
