Four year old drowned in Klipriver

The body of a boy who allegedly drowned in the Klipriver last week has been found. The

The four-year-old from Freedom Square Informal Settlement in Kliptown was reportedly missing while playing with his friends on the banks of the river last week.

Police and a rescue team searched for him for the whole week with no luck. The body was only discovered by a passer-by on Wednesday afternoon this week.

Eliot Mselemu, a passer-by saw the body of the boy floating on the river while riding his bicycle along the Mandela Stop Bridge.

“Police and the rescue team were summoned to the scene and the body of the boy was recovered,” said police spokesperson captain Hitler Ngwenya.

The family of the boy has identified the body and police have opened in inquest for further investigation. It is suspected that the boy slept and fell in to the river while playing with his three friends on Tuesday last week.
